Holidaymakers visiting Spain have been warned of a fresh round of strikes that have been announced for the remainder of 2022.
The strikes which are set to take place in 24-hour stoppages between September and December will mean further disruption to travellers to the country over the Autumn, Winter and Christmas holidays.
The industrial action will last for 25 days in total and will cover five days in September, seven in October, two in November and 11 in December.
Flights may be cancelled or delayed if the unions and the airport operator do not reach an agreement.
As a result, travellers to Spain are urged to make sure that prior to travel they check whether their flights are affected.
The action will involve baggage handlers, car park attendants, security personnel, IT and catering staff and follows an ongoing dispute between the country’s airport operator AENA and the three main worker’s unions, USO, CCOO and UGT.
The dates which have been planned for industrial action in September are the 15th, 17th, 22nd, 24th and 29th.
Christmas and New Year travel is also at risk with five days announced from December 26-30 with the aim to cause maximum disruption.
The announcement follows a summer of travel chaos after pilots and cabin crew from both Easyjet and Ryanair staged a series of walkouts over pay and working conditions.
In a further blow to travellers, Ryanair cabin crew in Spain, backed by the SITCPLA union, will also reportedly strike every week, from Monday to Thursday, until January 7.
Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Alicante, Seville and Palma de Mallorca airports may all be affected by the action. However, Ryanair said that the strikes will cause minimal impact to travellers this winter.
