Spanish supermarket chain DIA has pledged to invest around €130 million in 2022 by way of promotions in its shops and online channels.

Through the initiative, the retailer which is one of Spain’s biggest chains will attempt to reduce the impact of sky-high inflation on their customers.

The promotions will include discounts of up to 25% on more than 200 products in many different categories.

The retailer, which has around 4.8% market share in the country, is renowned for its lower prices and says that those who spend around 1,000 euros per year in its stores can save around 20-25% on their annual shop in comparison to other supermarket chains.

In September, DIA has already started to offer a number of promotions including special discounts for their 5.4 million Club Dia customers, as well as €20 discounts for those who shop with the chain online for the first time. They also offer a partner programme where users can save around €8 per month on their electricity bills.

In recent months, the country’s supermarkets have increased their prices by an average of 9.4%, however, DIA’s have risen by only 8.5% in comparison.

French giant Carrefour has increased its prices the most according to the OCU (Organisation of Consumers and Users) with prices up 12.1%. This was followed by Mercadon (11.4%), Eroski (9.5%) and Alcampo (9.2%).

The retailer has also gone to great lengths to produce its own range of products with more than 1,500 currently on offer. This number is expected to rise to around 1,800 by the end of 2022.

DIA prides itself on the fact that 96% of its products are sourced from Spain pledging to offer more seasonal and local products in its shops to promote regional varieties.
