United Airlines has announced the return of its direct flights from Malaga - Costa del Sol to New York, with the first flight being on May 31, 2023.
The seasonal route that Malaga lost back in 2019 when the airline halted its flights from Malaga to JFK airport, will return with three flights a week flying to and from Newark airport instead.
The flights will be on Boeing 757-200 planes with 169 seats, 16 of which will be United Polaris business class beds which are part of the airline's premium service. The remainder of the seats will be economy, including 45 with extra legroom.
The three weekly connecting flights to New York will depart from Malaga airport on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with flights arriving in Malaga on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. They will run until the end of September 2023, with the first flight arriving in Malaga from Newark at 2:30 pm on May 31. The first flight to leave Malaga will be on June 2 at 8:30 pm.
This new United Airlines flight schedule will be in addition to those already operating daily, all year round from Barcelona and Madrid to New York/Newark, as well as the seasonal flights from Barcelona and Madrid to Washington Dulles and from Tenerife and Palma de Mallorca to New York/Newark. In addition, there will also be a new seasonal service beginning on May 6, 2023, from Barcelona to Chicago O’Hare.
The addition of these new flights means that United will be flying from five Spanish cities next year, more than any other American airline. They will also be the only ones working with Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Tenerife.
As well as the new flights to Spain, the American carrier announced that its new summer 2023 schedule included flights to Stockholm, Sweden; Dubai, UAE, as well as six more flights to some of the most popular European destinations including Barcelona, Berlin, London, Paris, Rome and Shannon.
Next year, United Airlines will fly to a total of 37 cities in Europe, Africa, India and the Middle East. More destinations than all other U.S. airlines combined.
Patrick Quayle, Senior vice president of global network planning and alliances at United explained that “Next summer United is offering the best of both worlds: we’re making it easier for our customers to visit the most popular cities in Europe, but we’re also expanding our reach to give travellers access to new places they haven’t yet experienced.
“We expect another busy summer for international travel and are proud to build on our industry-leading global network to offer our customers the widest range of destinations and most convenient travel options.”
