The German supermarket chain Lidl has alerted its customers in Spain to fake advertising scams that are doing the rounds in its name.
These types of fraudulent schemes are rife these days and in this instance, products are being offered at ludicrously low prices and jobs are being advertised with attractive working conditions.
The advertisements and messages that are floating about also appear to be from reputable companies, meaning that many people fall for them, not realising until it is too late.
The Lidl supermarket chain has however reiterated that it only ever advertises special offers and job vacancies via official channels. It will never use WhatsApp or in fact, any other messaging service.
Lidl is one of many companies that have suffered from such scams recently and it wants to warn its customers not to respond to these adverts which appear to come directly from the company.
Taking to Twitter recently, Lidl said “We are not selling TVs for 1.95 euros. We do not advertise promotions on WhatsApp. Our communications only come through official channels. We never ask for people’s bank details, so these should not be given to anyone. If you have doubts, ask us!”
The supermarket also issued a reminder that its Twitter account has a blue tick to show that it is genuine and that customers should check this so that they can distinguish it from fake accounts.
In regard to job offers, Lidl says that these are always advertised on its website https://empleo.lidl.es, never on WhatsApp!
