Spain welcomed 4.3 million international tourists during the month of November 2022, a recovery of 93 percent of those who visited in the same month of 2019.
Yet again UK tourists topped the list with 828,680 visiting the country, representing 19.1 percent of all tourists arriving in the country.
France and Germany followed with 585,567 and 529,562 tourists respectively.
In regards to Spanish destinations, the Canary Islands were the most visited in November with 27.3 percent of the total. This was closely followed by Catalonia with 22.2 percent and Andalusia with 13.7 percent of the total number of international visitors.
Over the first eleven months of 2022, the number of international tourists who travelled to Spain exceeded 67 million, a representation of 85 percent of the figures for the same period in 2019.
During those eleven months, the autonomous communities that received the most tourists were Catalonia with almost 14 million, the Balearic Islands with 13.1 million, and the Canary Islands with 11.1 million.
Reyes Maroto, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism declared that "2022 will be remembered as the year of tourism recovery after the impact of the pandemic. According to our forecasts, during 2022 international tourists who will have visited Spain will exceed 71.5 million and the accumulated expenditure will reach 87,100 million euros.
“The containment of inflation in these last months of the year together with the measures implemented by the Government to face the impact of the war in Ukraine, are facilitating the arrival of tourists to our country, with increased spending and average stay, which makes us optimistic for the year 2023."
According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), during the month of November international travellers spent 5,387 million euros on their travel and stay. That’s 319 million euros or 6.2 percent more than in November 2019.
Average and daily spending also grew in the month of November, with the average spending per tourist growing by 14 percent, compared to pre-pandemic levels.
The average daily expenditure in November was 165 euros, an increase from the 161 euros that was spent in the same month of 2019.
The accumulated spending for the first eleven months of 2022 reached 81,821 million euros, 94 percent of the monies spent in 2019.
