Spain's 200 Euro Cost Of Living Payment Now Available Spain News

At the end of 2023, the Spanish government approved a new raft of measures to combat the rising cost of living with a focus on those considered to be the most vulnerable.

One key element of the package of measures is a one-off payment of 200 Euros that will be made available to those who earned less than 27,000 euros per annum in 2022, and whose assets do not exceed 75,000 euros per year as of December 31 of that same year.

As of today, February 15, those who qualify can go online to the tax agency’s website and apply for the payment which will be paid directly into their bank accounts. The deadline to apply is March 31.

Who qualifies for the payment?

According to the government, a total of 1.2 billion euros has been set aside, with the payments expected to reach more than 4.2 million people in the country.

The main requirements to be eligible for the payment are:-

  • Had a gross income of less than 27,000 euros in 2022. This applies to the household, not per individual member.
  • Have household assets of less than 75,000 euros
  • Been permanently resident in Spain (at least 183 days) in 2022.
  • Engaged in some form of work as either a self-employed or employed individual in 2022.
  • Were not in receipt of a pension or the Minimum Vital Income (IMV)

The calculation of income and assets will be made by adding those of the relatives who live in the same domicile, that is, the applicant, their spouse or common-law partner, descendants, and ascendants up to the second degree.

The income and assets of individuals who share a dwelling without a family connection will not be combined.

How can I apply and when will I receive the payment?

To apply for the aid, individuals must fill out an electronic form available on the Electronic Office of the State Administration Agency. This form can be submitted between February 15 and March 31.

The application process necessitates the use of Cl@ve PIN, electronic certificate, or DNI-e. Additionally, third parties may submit the form by proxy or social collaboration.

The applicant must provide the details of the bank account they would like to receive the payment.

In most cases, there will not be any need to upload any supporting documentation. This is because the Tax Agency will be able to verify eligibility for the payment from the data provided by the Social Security office and other public entities.

If the aid is not granted, the applicant is informed and given a ten-day window to present any documents in support of their application. If the agency does not receive any further documentation or supporting materials within a month, the request will be denied.

In the event that an immediate response is not received, applicants need not be overly concerned as the deadline for submitting applications runs until the end of March. The administration of the payment is implemented in the order in which applications are received.

The Tax Agency has a three-month period in which to verify that the applicant meets the requirements and will therefore receive the 200 euro payment.
