In a concerning development, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has issued a warning regarding the safety of 70,000 vehicles from three popular brands - Citroën, DS, and Peugeot - available in the Spanish market. These vehicles are at risk of fire due to a battery failure resulting from corrosion caused by possible infiltration. The OCU's alert has come to light through the European Union's rapid alert system (RAPEX) for dangerous non-food products.
According to the OCU, the affected vehicles include specific models within the mentioned brands. For Citroën, the models in question are the Citroen C5 Aircross manufactured between January 20, 2021, and January 1, of this year. The DS brand is represented by the DS7 Crossbacks produced between February 19, 2019, and November 22, 2022.
Peugeot vehicles affected by this battery-related issue include the 30208 VC2 manufactured between March 13, 2019, and December 12, 2022, as well as the 5008 V2 produced between July 10, 2019, and January 25, 2023.
The OCU emphasises that Stellantis, the parent company of Citroën, DS, and Peugeot, will proactively reach out to the owners of these vehicles to address the problem promptly. The necessary repairs will be carried out free of charge to ensure customer safety.
For car owners affected by this issue, the OCU recommends contacting the respective brand's customer service directly, particularly in cases where the vehicle was purchased second-hand. Since the current owner may not appear in the brand's database, reaching out to customer service is crucial to address the potential risk effectively.
The OCU's warning serves as a crucial reminder for Spanish car owners to remain vigilant and take the necessary steps to ensure their safety. Stellantis and the OCU are working diligently to resolve this battery malfunction promptly and minimise any potential risks associated with fire hazards.
