Free Museum And Attraction Visits In Malaga For World Tourism Day On Wednesday, September 27 Spain News

This month, Spain joins countries around the world to collectively celebrate World Tourism Day. The day takes place on Wednesday, September 27, and leaders from across the global tourism sector will gather in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to celebrate a day that has been observed each year since 1980 by the United Nations.

Run by the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), the event will highlight the power of tourism and explore avenues for collaboration. Government ministers, industry leaders and experts are expected to attend.

The popular city of Malaga that has a plethora of museums and tourist attractions will be joining in the celebrations by offering free entry on Wednesday 27 September. A total of 34 sites are participating in this initiative, which includes renowned places such as the Alcazaba, the Cathedral, the Centre Pompidou, the Picasso museum and CAC Málaga.

Since 2004, the Malaga council has been organising this event, waiving entry fees at most of the city's primary attractions to commemorate World Tourism Day. This year's theme revolves around sustainable tourism and green investments.

Other attractions that visitors can enjoy for free, some even offering guided tours, include the Museum of Malaga, Picasso's Birthplace, Carmen Thyssen Museum, Revello de Toro Museum, the Gerald Brenan House, the Collection of the Russian Museum Saint Petersburg, the airport museum, the Jorge Rando Museum, Málaga Club de Fútbol museum and tour, the Nereo Shipyard Ecomuseum, the Athenaeum of Malaga, the Interactive Music museum and the Glass and Crystal museum.

Additionally, historical landmarks like the archaeological sites of La Araña, the Gibralfaro fort, English Cemetery, Roman theatre, and the Botanical-Historical Garden of La Concepción will also open their doors for free as part of World Tourism Day.

World Tourism Day, celebrated by the World Tourism Organization (WTO), highlights the importance of tourism for various destinations worldwide. This year, the WTO emphasises the necessity for increased green investment that aligns with the well-being of people, the planet, and prosperity.

Last year saw a record attendance of more than 24,000 people enjoying free access to Malaga city's museums, exhibitions, and landmarks, marking the highest turnout in four years.

This brochure is also accessible at tourist offices and has been distributed to select hotels across Malaga city and along the Costa del Sol, from Estepona to Nerja, as well as in Antequera, Frigiliana, and Ronda.
