The regional government of Murcia approved this Thursday, September 22, the reduction of personal income tax (IRPF).
The measure which was first announced by the region’s president, Fernando López Miras on May 27, was given the green light by the Governing Council.
The Ministry of Finance confirmed that the reduction would be 4.1% which would be “in line with the national evolution of wages” and higher than the original figure of 3.5% suggested by Miras in May.
The move will be welcome news for Murcians who like the rest of the country have been hit with rocketing prices in recent months and the rate of inflation exceeding 10 percent in August.
In terms of savings, the Murcian Executive believes that around 330,000 of the region’s citizens who earn up to 60,000 euros per annum, will save money in their next presented income statements for 2022.
The collective savings for taxpayers will be in the region of 8.5 and 10 million euros
Via his Twitter page, López Miras said, “We lower taxes to help all those families who can't make ends meet. Tomorrow we approve the deflation of the Personal Income Tax that will benefit the taxpayers of the first four tranches of the regional tariff. The #RegióndeMurcia advances without leaving anyone behind.”
Bajamos impuestos para ayudar a todas esas familias que no pueden llegar a fin de mes.

Mañana aprobamos la deflactación del IRPF que beneficiará a los contribuyentes de los cuatro primeros tramos de la tarifa autonómica.

It means that the region will be aligned with those of Isabel Díaz Ayuso in the Community of Madrid and Juan Manuel Moreno in Andalusia, who this week approved the reduction in income tax and the abolition of wealth tax to attract high-income individuals to the region.
The Murcian government has also suggested that the wealth tax (Impuesto de Patrimonio) may also be in the firing line, however, for now, it will remain under review.
The union of technicians of the Treasury, GESTHA, says that the wealth tax accounts for around 27.3 million euros in revenue and is currently paid by 4,500 of the region's taxpayers.
