What does the Sanitas Traffic and Work Accidents add-on cover?
Sanitas Traffic and Work Accidents is an add-on that covers medical care for injuries from road traffic and workplace accidents, and occupational illness, which health policies normally exclude. The standard cover costs €1,60 a month per person, and the extended cover, at €2,70, adds qualified help at home. There are no waiting periods, and children under 18 pay nothing.
HealthPlan Spain is an authorised Sanitas agent (agent code 22395) in Marbella that arranges Sanitas policies and add-ons in English, at the same price as buying direct from Sanitas.
Standard health policies generally exclude care arising from road traffic and workplace accidents (and occupational illness). This add-on restores that cover, so you are treated within the Sanitas network for injuries from a traffic or work accident.
It comes in two versions. The standard cover pays for your medical care after the accident. The extended (ampliada) cover goes further: it also provides qualified help at home while you recover - household tasks, personal care, childcare and more.
The home-help services apply from day one when a covered traffic or work accident leaves you in hospital or confined to home on your doctor's orders.
There are no waiting periods and no pre-existing-condition checks - you are covered from day one. It is taken out for all insured persons, from age 0 to 75, with no upper age limit to keep it.
How to add it: All add-ons are selected at the application form stage - when you take out a new Sanitas plan or at renewal - and apply to everyone insured on the policy.

What changes by plan

- Sanitas Residents Visa: only the extended cover with home help is offered, at €2,70 a month per person.
- Sanitas Mas Salud, Mas Salud Plus, Mas Salud Optima, Mas Salud Family, Mas 90, Mas 90 Plus and Premium 500: the standard cover costs €1,60 a month per person and the extended cover with home help costs €2,70.
- Sanitas Top Quantum: medical care after a traffic or work accident is already included in the plan, so there is nothing to add.
- Sanitas Professional and Professional Plus: healthcare after a work or road traffic accident is already included in the plan, and help at home comes from the plans' own Total Protection cover rather than this add-on.
- Not offered on Sanitas Accede, Avanza or Unico.

Who can take it
Taken out for all insured persons, ages 0-75, with no upper age limit to keep it.
Psychological support is guidance rather than diagnosis or treatment, with up to 3 phone sessions and 3 in-person sessions of 1 hour each. The policy conditions exclude fraudulent behaviour, nuclear, radioactive, chemical or biological contamination, armed conflict, events officially classed as catastrophic, and extraordinary risks such as floods or earthquakes. The add-on can be removed when the policy expires, with notice given at least one month before the expiry date.
Qualified home help while you recover
If a covered traffic or work accident leaves you in hospital or confined to home on your doctor's orders, the extended cover arranges practical help at home from day one, including:
- Home help with everyday household tasks - cleaning, laundry and cooking
- Personal care - help with washing, dressing, eating and moving around the home
- Care for children under 16 or disabled dependants, or transport to a relative
- Care for dependent parents living with you, or transport to a relative
- Psychological support after the incident
Home-help services run for a minimum of 2 continuous hours a day, up to a maximum of 90 hours spread over up to 3 months. Injuries from sports competitions are excluded.
